Sulphur is a macro element which is abundantly present in all reefs around the world mostly in the form of Sulphate.
Despite Sulphur being a macro element that typically gets replenished with water changes and the addition of foods or other supplements containing high levels of sulphate, sulphur can still get depleted in the tank. Given that Sulphur is highly linked to bacterial activity, the presence of Sulphur in much lower or higher concentrations from the normally found in the seawater can lead to bacterial issues.
If disease in corals occur due to pathogenic bacterial activity (i.e. STN/RTN) it is important to check Sulphur levels through an ICP analysis and ensure it is within the ranges indicated below.
Nonetheless, Sulphate/Sulphur is not yet fully researched and ideal ranges are still to be determined, however we suggest Sulphur to be kept at 900mg/l + -5% (i.e. 865-945mg/l) which have been shown as safe.
Used in conjunction with a regular testing procedure, allows any reefer to make corrections to Sulphur levels ensuring the levels in their tank water stay within the best range for their friends.
10 ml increases the Sulphur concentration of 100 litres by ~3.5 mg/l.
